I've been up to this...
It's March already. Can you believe it? So with spring literally on the doorstep, I thought now might be a good time for a quick update. You might want to pop the kettle on at this point or open that bottle of wine and settle in. Ready? Sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin.
I've spent the first two months of this year finishing the first draft of About Us. It's going really well. I mean, my editor hasn't seen it yet, so once she has, I might not be quite so confident. After she's done her thing, it always comes back with more lines that a London Underground map, on it. Change this. That doesn't work. Their name changed four times in the first four chapters. What the hell is going on? This isn't funny, that isn't emotional enough, and seriously, how are you even an author? It isn't that bad - my editor is lovely - but it's always nerve wracking getting back the first series of edits. Also I'm the only person who has read it at this point. Maybe it's drivel.
While About Us is off with my editor, I'll be working on my next project. Oh yes, I have some good news. So about five years I wrote a novel. It was the novel I wrote before,This Thirtysomething Life and although it's never seen the light of day, I've always rather liked it. It hasn't been published for a variety of reason....but I've decided that after About Us, I'm going to publish it. It needs work, but it's a fully formed novel so the good news is I'm hoping to get it out at the beginning of next year! I usually publish a novel a year, but in this case it's going to be about six months after About Us. So you'll have two novels out within the next year! I know, exciting stuff.
I can't give out any details of my new novel yet, but it's a romantic comedy, and it has probably my favourite title of any of my books. It's funny, sweet, rude, and includes some nudity - but not the sort you'd imagine. That's all I can say at the moment. After that I'm already planning ahead. I mentioned on Twitter yesterday that I know what my next five published books are going to be. The reason for this is that after About Us, and the other novel I've just mentioned, I decided I wanted to work on a series of books. I really enjoyed writing about Harry Spencer in This Thirtysomething Life and This Family Life, but despite having ideas, I don't want to revisit him at the moment. I did enjoy writing a series though so I'm going to write a new one.
The trouble with writing This Family Life - the second in the Harry Spencer series - was that I didn't really plan to write a sequel. I wrote the first book and thought that was going to be it. Then it became so popular I ended up writing the sequel. This time I want to conceive a whole three book series from beginning to end. Going into it knowing it's going to be a series will make it so much better. I don't have any details yet, except it's going to be a comedy, and I'm going to write it in the diary format. Again I really enjoyed writing the Harry Spencer books in the diary format because I think it lends itself to comedy really well and I haven't done it since. So look out for more news about that next year.
So this is where I am at the moment. Finishing up About Us getting ready to edit my seventh novel, which will be out the beginning of 2018, and working on a brand new series of books. It's busy, busy, busy at the moment, but I'm very happy with how things are going. On that note, I'd like to say, THANK YOU, to everyone who has supported me and bought my books over the last year. I had my best year ever in 2016 and that's all thanks to you. So cheers! Have a lovely weekend everyone.
Until next time.
